Liquid and electronics don't mix, but a calm, quick response can save your device. Here's the right sequence — and the myths to ignore.
Do This Right Away
- Power it off. Don't check if it still works — that's how short circuits happen. Shut it down.
- Unplug and remove accessories. Case, SIM tray, anything removable.
- Dry the outside. Gently pat it down and tilt to let water drain from the ports.
- Don't charge it. Putting power through a wet device is the fastest way to fry it.
Skip the Rice
The rice trick is a myth — it doesn't pull moisture from inside the device and can leave starchy dust in the ports. What actually matters is getting the device to a technician who can open it, clean any corrosion, and dry the board properly before damage sets in.
Time Is Everything
Corrosion begins within hours. The sooner a professional can do a proper cleaning and diagnostic, the better your odds of a full recovery — including your photos and data.
